Romsey Family Support Group

The Romsey Family Support Group has run for over four decades as a registered charity, helping families with pre-school children from birth to four years old who need extra backing during challenging periods.

Based at the Appletree Centre on Princes Road, just behind Romsey Library, the group opens its doors twice a week for drop-in sessions that welcome mums, dads, and carers alike.

A team of dedicated volunteers keeps things going, running a free creche so parents can chat without interruption or sort out whatever is on their mind. Fresh fruit and vegetables often appear on the table, alongside toys and activities for the little ones.

Volunteers also guide families towards other local services, from food banks to housing advice, or even arrange practical help like transport or surplus furniture when available.

The atmosphere stays relaxed and non-judgemental, giving parents space to share experiences, build friendships, and feel less isolated. Many attend for as long as it suits them, with no pressure to move on. The group relies entirely on volunteers and donations, which means they frequently put out calls for more hands to help with the creche, lifts, or fundraising efforts.

Feedback from families and the wider community highlights the group’s role as a genuine lifeline, with appreciation for the warm welcome and tangible assistance that eases daily pressures. The charity rates highly through consistent local recognition and gratitude expressed in community reports over the years.
