Glamping at The Meadow in Broughton
The Meadow Glamping Site occupies a quiet corner of Broughton in Hampshire. Its two-acre meadow borders the Wallop Brook and contains a small lake, giving every unit direct water views and plenty of open space for relaxation.
Three separate accommodations cater to couples. Wild Billy’s uses a restored 1890s showman’s wagon fitted with a wood burner, memory-foam mattress and covered outdoor seating. Mary’s Place adopts a bohemian style with folding glass doors that open onto decking and a summer house positioned over the water. The Magic Rat occupies a 23-foot restored narrowboat moored beside a private island reached by a rustic wooden bridge; the island holds an arbour, seating and further firepit space.
Each unit includes its own outdoor area equipped with a firepit, tripod cooker, table and chairs. Private compost toilets sit a short distance away while dedicated themed hot showers remain exclusive to the booking. Solar lighting and covered sections handle evening use and changeable weather. Cooking options extend to barbecues or gas burners, with the chance to order from nearby pubs when preferred.
The grounds spread the units far enough apart to ensure privacy yet keep the full meadow, garden areas and lake accessible. A full-size grass tennis court comes with supplied racquets and balls. The rowing boat named Solution waits on the lake for gentle circuits. Wildlife appears regularly: ducks and moorhens on the water, kingfishers along the brook, woodpeckers in the willows and roe deer at the edges of the meadow.
- Accessibility: level meadow paths connect the units to facilities, though some elements such as the island bridge and shower locations involve short scenic walks of one to two minutes. The rural location works best for guests with their own transport and suits walkers who arrive ready for countryside terrain.
- Layout: the two-acre site positions the three units around the lake and brook for separation and views while sharing the broader rolling meadow and willow-lined gardens.
- Parking: free parking sits directly on site with space beside each accommodation.
- Local amenities: Broughton village lies within a five-minute walk or drive and holds two pubs for meals or drinks. Stockbridge, seven minutes away by car, provides a Georgian high street with independent shops, butchers and riverside cafés. The Clarendon Way long-distance path starts close by for immediate walking or cycling, while the Test Way and Broughton Down Nature Reserve add further routes within easy reach.
Open countryside surrounds the site. Salisbury and Winchester sit around twenty minutes by road, both offering cathedral cities with museums and riverside paths. Chalk streams and nature reserves in the Test Valley lie within similar distances for those who prefer quieter exploration. Many stays combine the glamping base with day trips along these historic and natural routes.
The site maintains an adults-only policy with occasional exceptions for exclusive bookings. No pets stay on site to protect the resident wildlife. The whole meadow can be reserved for small groups when paired with additional annexe rooms or the nearby six-bedroom house.
